ACA (ObamaCare) Now Receiving Majority Approval…

Sure looks like America is warming up to the ACA (Affordable Care Act). This reality must be causing the Freedom Caucus in particular, and republicans in general, conniption fits.

Maybe it’s approaching the time to give serious consideration to a workable American designed single payer health care (insurance) system. Perhaps something along the lines of Medicare with a little tweaking to ensure its long-term viability and sustainability.

  • 55% approve, up from 42% right after 2016 election
  • 40% want to keep law but make significant changes
  • 30% want to repeal; 26% want to keep law as it is

The POTUS Has A Trust And Credibility Problem…

West Long Branch, NJ  – Fully 8-in-10 Americans agree that Donald Trump has had a worse relationship with the media than his predecessors, with most saying this is hurting both his image and the media’s image as well. When the Monmouth University Poll  pitted the president against three major television news outlets, Trump was found to be less trustworthy in each instance. The poll also found that most Americans believe that news outlets – from traditional media entities to newer online sources – report “fake news” stories at least occasionally.

81% say Trump’s relationship with the media is worse than his predecessors.
4% say his relationship is better.
12% says it is close to the same.
58% believe this has hurt Trump’s image.
7% believe it has helped Trump’s image.
32% believe it has made no difference.

28% are moe likely to trust Trump -vs- ABC as a information source.
38% -vs- MSNBC
17% -vs- FOX

When it comes to GOP partisans the story is much different.

Trump -vs-  MSNBC – Trump 66% to 16% MSNBC
Trump -vs- ABC –  Trump 56% to 22% ABC
Trump -vs- FOX – Trump 29% to FOX 26%, with 44% of republicans having equal trust.

Generally Trump has dug himself a hole with respect to credibility. One which is unlikely to become shallower given his past and present affinity for lying.

Trump, Continuing His Descent, Is Now At 36% Approval…

Our pretend POTUS, always the winner according to his self proclamations, seems to be having a bit of a problem with the majority of people in our ALREADY GREAT NATION.

Before we go further this site will acknowledge that Trump does well in the more affluent suburbs and rural areas of America. Just as he does in the less educated areas of America among those who are heavily influenced by hyperbole and alternative facts.  Those who prefer not to take the time to educate themselves so they FULLY understand what is REALLY  in their own best self-interest.

Gallup has Trump’s approval rating at 36% as of this weekend. Let that sink in for a moment… … This means that 64% of Americas either disapprove of Trump’s performance after 67 days in office, or, they are at least concerned enough not to give him a positive rating.

Heretofore no modern president has garnered such dismal approval ratings this early in their administration. Given Trump’s spectacular failing on healthcare insurance reform, and the likelihood his foray into tax reform will be met with strident opposition, his approval numbers my very well experience further descent into the abyss.

Frankly, from our POV, is approval numbers are well EARNED.

From GALLUP:

President Donald Trump’s job approval rating fell to 36% for the three-day period of March 24-26, following Republican House leaders’ failed effort to pass a new healthcare bill that would have replaced the Affordable Care Act.

Trump’s three-day reading prior to Friday’s events was 41%. His previous low point was 37%, recorded March 16-18. His highest reading was 46% in the week following his Jan. 20 inauguration, and he has averaged 42% for his term to date.

Trump’s current 36% is two percentage points below Barack Obama’s low point of 38%, recorded in 2011 and 2014. Trump has also edged below Bill Clinton’s all-time low of 37%, recorded in the summer of 1993, his first year in office, as well as Gerald Ford’s 37% low point in January and March 1975. John F. Kennedy’s lowest approval rating was 56%; Dwight Eisenhower’s was 48%.

Presidents George W. Bush (lowest approval rating: 25%), George H.W. Bush (29%), Ronald Reagan (35%), Jimmy Carter (28%), Richard Nixon (24%), Lyndon Johnson (35%) and Harry Truman (22%) all had job approval ratings lower than 36% at least once during their administrations.

Presidential job approval ratings are fluid, and all presidents have seen both upward and downward swings in their ratings at various points in their administrations — a historical precedent indicating Trump’s approval could drop further or recover in the weeks and months ahead. An encouraging sign for Trump, perhaps, is that all presidents whose ratings fell below 36% — with the exception of Nixon — saw their ratings improve thereafter. Clinton provides a particularly relevant example. His approval rating dropped to 37% in June 1993 but recovered to 56% by September of that year.

A Different Trump Became President…

Last night on CNN Van Jones said that Trump became the President, the result of his address to the join session of Congress. The President’s tone was decidedly different. Trump did not use I, didn’t make the evening all about him. He talked about republicans and democrats working to move the country forward, together. Yes, there were a lot of platitudes, and, there were many less than accurate statements made by the President. It is fair to say nonetheless that last night Trump was presidential.  Van Jones even went so far as to state if President Trump maintained the tone last night’s performance going forward he would be there for four years.

Van Jones, as well as all other liberals/progressives, have deep differences with the President’s agenda and policies. And so they should. At the same time Van Jones recognizes why it is important to acknowledge what we witnessed last night. If Trump continues to comport himself as he did last night give him his dues on that, and then hammer away at those issues he is wrong on. Respectfully so. Work with him on issues where there is common ground. Because if liberals/progressives don’t they will be viewed as being no different than republicans were during Obama’s presidency. Trump and his handlers are smart enough to know this, and, they will exploit it.

Now on to some fact checking of last nights address.

7 in 10 Speech-Watchers Say Trump Boosted Optimism

President Trump has much to overcome as he cannot hide from his past statements and actions. Democrats will certainly and constantly remind. That and it is impossible for a leopard to change its spots. It may very well be almost as impossible for a 70 year old billionaire to change his.

Trump Confirmed Less Credible Than the Meadia, By The Poeple…

Donald Trump is losing his fight with the media. And badly. It is heartening to see data that paints a clear picture that the majority of the American public believe the truth, that Trump is less credible than the media. That Trump is more often than not fabricating or twisting the truth.

Anyone really paying attention, reading several credible news sources daily, knows the alternate facts and fake news is coming out of the White House.

All 5 of the outlets Trump singled out for attack last week are seen as credible by majorities of the public. Out of the Trump friendly outlets only Fox News comes out seen as more credible than not, but it is still seen as less credible than all the mainstream outlets Trump targeted in his media attack tweet last week. Meanwhile Daily Caller, Info Wars, and Breitbart clearly still just appeal to fringes of the population even with Trump in the White House- even within his base only 6-20% of voters consider each of those sources to be credible.

Of course the word out of the White Hose will be FAKE NEWS!
